Tin Roof, Rusted

warehouse
I've been eying this old warehouse for sometime now on the corner of Water and Whitney Streets. I couldn't find a clear vantage point to take a photo. Too many power lines as well as the traffic light as you can see. The corrugated tin walls here are normally used for roofs. From the looks of it, it's been awhile that these walls had a coat of paint if the even ever had paint.

Monochrome Monday

bridgePictured here is an old railroad bridge taken from the parking lot of cardinal comb. This bridge was built of granite quarried right here in Leominster in 1873. The railroad is no longer in use.

Jackie’s Dairy Bar

jackiesWe have another victim of the times. A couple of weeks ago I posted about Roma Bakery closing here. Now it is Jackie's Dairy Bar that has closed.

This one was quite a surprise around town. Judging by the stack of news paper bundles at the front door it appears that even vendors were unaware. Jackie's has been on the corner of Main St. and Nashua St. for as long as I can remember (I'm talking in the 70's now). My family and I spent many summer nights making a run to Jackie's to get some ice cream. We will surely miss Jackie's!

P.S. Sorry for not posting much last week. I was on call last weekend and also had a sick baby. I just didn't have time to go out and capture photo's.

Monoosnoc Trail

Trail_headWhile hiking at Sholan Farms I saw many markers such as this one which marked the trails. Some of them that I did not take a photo of were for the Monoosnoc Trail.

The Monoosnoc Trail is something that I've heard about but never really paid much attention to it. Doing some research I found a trail map though it is not as complete as I would like it to be. The trail is in the western part of Leominster starting on from what I can tell is the end of Maple street. It goes up Monoosnoc ledge which is the hill you see while standing in twin city plaza. From there it continues south through Leominster state forest and what is known as Parmenter road. Continuing south you pass Haynes Reservoir, Bayberry Hill and Fallbrook Reservoir which brings you close to where I was at Sholan Farms. The trail continues on until it ends at Samosett School.

The length of this trail is said to be 11 miles long. My daughter is already asking me when we are going to hike this trail. If only I had the energy of an eight year old

Monochrome Monday

sholan_apple_treesMy daughter and I took a walk at Sholan Farms over the weekend. While walking we kept on hearing these snapping sounds. When we came up to the apple orchard we found out the source of the sounds. A farmer was pruning the apple trees. Pictured here is the neat piles he was creating.
